What is a Carbohydrate Choice

What is a Carb Choice?

Typically, people count their carbs in grams. Some people who count carbs find it easier to count carb “choices” rather than grams. One carb choice equals 15 grams of carbohydrates. It equals the carbohydrate amount of one slice of bread. If your carbohydrate goal is 75 grams per meal, that would translate to five carb choices per meal.

The Challenge with ‘Carb Choices’

In the “real world” not all carbohydrate choices contain exactly 15 grams of carbohydrates, but this amount is used as a handy rule for carb counting.

You don’t have to use carb choices to do carb counting, you can also just count the individual grams of carbohydrates in the foods you eat and keep track that way.

Your GluCare team will help you figure out food portions that contain 15 grams of carbohydrates in the common foods you eat.
